453 SHOW UP AT RECORD MEETING!/LESLIE LASHINSKY WINS THREE TO ONE

Greetings Colleagues,

The final numbers at last night meeting were:
453 in total attendance (Larger than last April)

Leslie Lashinky – 342
David Schubach –104
Seven walked out without voting.

Regardless of the outcome, Democracy was certainly alive at our Local last night. Over the last year we’ve seen numbers unheard of in decades. The rank and file have made amazing strides, including at this meeting, which we detail below.

The Election Board did a great job of making sure the election went off without a hitch. Bravo to the Election Board and their chair Michele Bryne.

They say people use negative campaigning because it works, and their Rovian tactics against David did their job.

A majority of the RMA members ONLY cared about getting Leslie in. Once the vote was done, most of them left.

We don’t know why so many continue to vote against their own interest, but they came and used their vote. And it’s who is there that counts.

We congratulate Leslie on her win. She now has a year to show the entire membership that she can represent ALL MEMBERS and not be a lackey for the RMA administration. The board now knows people are watching and that what they do will get out to the membership. Hopefully it will make them think twice.

RANK AND FILE FMA MOTIONS PASSED

The Referral service committee (Chair Lisa Haley, Marcy Vaj, Ed Vodicka and Kirk Smith) made four excellent motions, all of which passed! By then most of the RMA left, but the quorum was maintained. Below are the basics of their motions, this is NOT the final wording.

Motion I

1) Make Sam Chates (the Referral service employee) full time with benefits, and add an additional part time employee to help fulfill the passed motion from the July 23, 2007 meeting (to regain and then surpass the previous activity level of the Referral Service).
PASSED UNANYMOUSLY

Motion II

POINT ONE – Restore the advertising budget for the Referral Service, CD Sales Dept and Radio Airplay departments, adjusted to 2007 dollars to the highest budget level previously allocated.

POINT TWO – Find effective advertising outlets into today’s market to be established in order to receive the largest return on the advertising budget.

POINT THREE – Analyze purpose of the new Local 47 website and it’s interaction with existing means of advertising and its effectiveness in restoring the highest activity levels of the referral service department.
PASSED UNANYMOUSLY

Motion III
Create an ad hoc oversight committee to oversee the implementation of previous motions
PASSED UNANYMOUSLY

Motion IV
Objectives of the referral service committee to be fully implemented by Local 47 officers by the April 2008 meeting, with a progress report in January, 2008.
PASSED UNANYMOUSLY

Thank you to the people who stayed after the vote to continue the work that needed to be done. Though the smear tactics worked once again to deny us David Schubach’s expertise, we made a HUGE leap forward in restoring our member services, one of the original reasons the COMMITTEE was created! The Board is being dragged kicking and screaming, but they’re having to listen.

==============

Brothers and Sisters,

This meeting was a success for the rank and file in many ways, but we have much more to do to make this Local more open and accountable. We’ll be here to praise what’s good, expose what’s bad, and make those who have lost faith in our Local care again.

The relentlessness, shamelessness and venom of the personal attacks on those they believe are on the COMMITTEE shows we’re making a real difference. If we weren’t, they wouldn’t bother.

Until next time,

THE COMMITTEE FOR A MORE RESPONSIBLE LOCAL 47
